Our resident orthodontic wizard and gypsy rebel, Dr. Seanica Howe, received her dental degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She graduated with honors and was recognized for her academic excellence with a membership in the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. She also held a teaching position in cell and molecular biology for incoming dental students. The following year, she entered her orthodontic residency at Nova Southeastern University and completed her certification in 2003.
Prior to establishing Howe Orthodontics in Key West, Dr. Howe owned, designed, and directed orthodontic practices in her home state of Missouri as well as in South Florida. She has been practicing in South Florida since 2003. Her love for esthetics and the art of orthodontics comes naturally and extends into her other interests as well.
Drawn by her artistic spirit, she trained in the fine arts at the Miami Art Institute where her early designs and drawings were recognized and displayed. In 2012, she received a master's degree in modern and contemporary art from the prestigious Christie's auction house in New York City. Dr. Howe has worked as a freelance art writer and many of her writings have been published by the Miami New Times. She is currently at work on a book intertwining life, spirituality, magic, and art.
She's inspired more than a few kids to go into the field of orthodontics and is committed to breaking down barriers in business. You'll never see her in a white coat but you will see her lighting candles, working with crystals, and just utilizing life as an opportunity to elevate love and beauty.
Meet our office manager, Jamie Scearce. Jamie has been with us since 2014 and helps keep Howe Orthodontics running like a well-oiled machine! Since marrying her high school sweetheart, Andy, they have hopped from place to place all over the southeast but finally landed in the Florida Keys in 2012. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, painting, getting stuck in a Netflix binge-a-thon, and getting dragged around to do whatever her social-butterfly of a husband is in the mood for (this usually involves some good friends and some good music - especially local music). If you have a question, she has an answer...at least when it comes to your orthodontic care; but if you ever need to know what the longest word in the english language is, she can help you out there, too.
Silvia Carson-Emily is our lead assistant and clinical coordinator. Although she wasn’t born in Key West, she is considered a freshwater conch. She went to elementary school, middle school and graduated high school in Key West. Silvia started working with us in 2014 when she was 15 years old doing sterilization and lab cleaning. She worked after school every day until she graduated and started full time as an assistant at age 17. From there she worked her way up to lead assistant at 19 years old! Silvia loves braces so much if she could, she would have braces on her teeth her whole life. :)
As a practicing dentist in Nicaragua and Honduras, Mariel always had an interest in orthodontics. She had considered going back to school to study orthodontics but love intervened! She met her now husband, Michael, in Honduras and made the decision to move with him back to the U.S.A.! She arrived in Key West in 2011 and joined our team as an orthodontic assistant in 2016 after starting orthodontic treatment with us. She officially became a U.S. citizen in 2018!!! She and Michael have a rambunctious 3 year old son named Sebastian who keeps them on their toes. When she isn't being an ortho super-star, she enjoys going to the movies, spending time with friends, and dancing the night away whenever she can.
Addison Duponty was born and raised in Key West. Addison was another patient-turned-employee! After expressing interest in pursuing a career as an orthodontist, Dr. Howe offered her the opportunity to intern with us in 2017 and she has now worked her way up to part-time orthodontic assistant! Those who know her describe her as a sweet, loyal, caring, intelligent girl and we couldn't agree more. She fits right in here at Howe Orthodontics!
LaReya Wiegand has been with us for almost a year and we can't believe it's gone by so fast. After marrying her husband, who is active military, she packed up her life in her hometown of Coralville, Iowa and moved to Key West. When she's not in the office, LaReya enjoys coaching tumbling as she was a competitive gymnast from age 4 to 18 years old. As a gymnast, she was constantly traveling for competitions but the trip that really sparked her love for adventure was a two week trip to Rome. Her husband got orders to transfer to Sicily, Italy this fall so we are all completely green with envy that LaReya gets to take that jump across the pond! Several of us have threatened to hide away in her luggage when she goes!!!
Sarah is the newest addition to the Howe Orthodontics team and is a former patient. Born and raised in Key West, she is a seventh generation conch. If you don't already know, Conch is the term given to the true Florida Keys locals. Sarah says that growing up on the island is a "crazy beautiful thing". When she isn't hard at work, she spends 80% of her time on the water. The other 20% of her down time is spent bingeing "The Office" on Netflix! Her time spent with us as a patient created a real interest in everything "teeth" so when she heard we were looking to expand our team, she says she jumped at the opportunity to join what she calls "this amazing group of women"!
Born in Texas and raised in Louisiana, this little dreadheaded, southern belle made her way down to Key West in 2016. Audriana first came into our office as a transfer patient. After molding her teeth into perfection, Dr. Howe asked her if she would like to join our amazing team. Audriana jokingly asked “you want me to hold a sign out front or something"? Audriana started working for Howe Orthodontics on the iconic tutu Tuesday as an assistant and later became the marketing director. She now operates remotely from Richmond, VA where you can find her kayaking, paddle boarding, or hanging out at the OBX in her free time.
Christina Andrews is the offsite director and consultant at Howe Orthodontics. She has been in management for over 15 years and in the orthodontic industry for over 20 years. Currently she manages and consults for practices in the Tampa Bay area and throughout Florida. "I am so proud to be a part of the Howe Orthodontics team. This group is one of the most genuine and powerful group of women I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I truly enjoy the work that I do and am grateful to be part of such an amazing team. I'm a native Floridian and in my spare time love going to the beach and being with my three wonderful sons"
Madison joined our team in June 2019 as an intern after completing her treatment with us. Dr. Howe fell in love with her sweet personality and knew right away that she would be a good fit for our growing team. She was born and raised in Key West, making her our third "Conch"! Madi says she is "entirely grateful to be working with such amazing people. I learn new things here everyday, it truly is a wonderful experience". Like so many other Islanders, when she isn't working or studying, she can be found on the water. Madi is also a part of the awesome Key West High School Junior Varsity Cheerleading team!!! Go Conchs!
